Look, my point is this. Laika's story isn't a pleasant one, but it is one worth understanding properly, in every inglorious detail. Agree with what they did or disagree, that's certainly your prerogative, but don't make the mistake of chalking the event up to simple sadism, because it diminishes the ethical issues that are actually at hand. If you want to get into animal safety and science with someone, and the perceived value of animal life in relation to human, I'm sure someone will bite.
